Highway system

I-49 is currently in three separate segments. The first segment goes from Lafayette to Shreveport, Louisiana. The second segment goes from just north of Shreveport to Texarkana, Arkansas. The third segment goes from Alma, Arkansas to Kansas City. In the future, I-49 will be a fully connected highway from New Orleans, Louisiana to Kansas City. These unfinished portions are in many stages of planning or construction.
