Jan Saxl

Jan Saxl (5 June 1948[1] – 2 May 2020) was a Czech-British mathematician. He was a professor at the University of Cambridge. He was known for his work in finite group theory. Saxl was born in Brno, in what was at the time Czechoslovakia.[2] He worked at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and had a lecturer position at the University of Glasgow.

He was elected as a fellow of Gonville and Caius College in 1986,[2] and he retired in 2015.[3]

Saxl died on 2 May 2020 after a long-illness, aged 71.[2]
