The University of Illinois at Chicago, often called UIC, is a public research university in Chicago, Illinois. The university has about 27,300 students. Part of it was founded in 1858, part was founded in 1965. UIC has 15 colleges. Thirteen colleges cover certain fields: Applied Health Sciences, Architecture & the Arts, Business Administration, Dentistry, Education, Engineering, Liberal Arts & Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, Social Work, and Urban Planning & Public Affairs. Two colleges serve sub-groups of students: Graduate College and (undergraduate) Honors College.

The current chancellor of the university is Paula Allen Mears. UIC is in the same university family as UIUC and UIS. The president of the family is Robert Easter.


The university sports teams are called the Flames. UIC has 14 varsity teams, most of which play in the Horizon League. The gymnastics team plays in Eastern Intercollegiate Gymnastics League.
