History

In 2004, JOGMEC was established by the Law Concerning the Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation Archived 2020-08-03 at the Wayback Machine.[3]

JOGMEC was created when the Japan National Oil Corporation (JNOC) merged with the former Metal Mining Agency of Japan (MMAJ).[2]

Rare metal stockpiles are managed by JOGMEC.[4]

In March 2013 JOGMEC successfully extracted methane hydrate from seabed for the first time in the world.[5]
