Joél Filsaime (musician)

Joél Filsaime (born. September 20, 1984 in Boynton Beach, Florida), better known by his stage name J-Pimp[1], is an American rapper, philanthropist and entrepreneur.[2][3]

He is perhaps best known for his freestyle rap songs published from 2019-2022 continuously peak #1 on the Freestyle charts popular website SoundClick.com.[4][5] He is best known for his consistent hip hop album releases from his independent record label D-Ploy Records in iTunes Store, including The Average Joe received positive reviews and nominated on the Billboard (magazine).[6][7]

Early life

J-Pimp was born Joél Filsaime[8] in Boynton Beach, Florida and raised in Delray Beach, Florida of Haitian descent speaking Haitian Creole fluently.[9] His mother was a voodoo priestess in Léogâne.[10] He began taking interest in music at an early age, started as a DJ playing a variety of rap music on the morning announcement in junior high school.[11] He dropout of high school in the eleventh grade following a serious football injury, he began to pursue a career in the music industry.[12][13] He developed his musical talent and taught himself how to record music from his home studio influenced by famous hip-hop artists such as Tupac Shakur, Twista, Wyclef Jean, Rick Ross, and 50 Cent.[14] He grew up listening to Hip hop and R&B music gaining recognition as a record producer, audio mixing local rap artists in his community.[15] He was raised as a Roman Catholic and attended Catholic school. He is a 2010 Haiti earthquake survivor because he was in a Florida jail at the time. In December 2010, Joél Filsaime was arrested on gun charges in Palm Beach County, Florida. He was released from county jail to his own custody a few hours later.[16]

Personal life

Joél Filsaime started dating Anya Duvalier, daughter of former President of Haiti Jean-Claude Duvalier in 2019.[17]

Production equipment

Joél Filsaime uses a variety of production equipment to create beats, rhythmic variation and sound effects. His gear includes the Kawai K5000, Akai MPC Live II Retro Edition Music Production Workstation, Studio One, FL Studio, Yamaha MODX8, and the Kurzweil K2000.[18] His vocals have been described as "unique" and "strong", MTV wrote that Filsaime music "demonstrate a N.W.A-like harmoniously rhymes to create a unique blending of gangsta rap and freestyle rap".[19]
