John Monckton

John James Monckton (28 October 1937 – 29 June 2017)[1] was an Australian backstroke swimmer. He won a silver medal in the 100-metre event at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne. Although he set multiple world records, he never won an Olympic gold medal.[2] He was born in Armidale, New South Wales.

Monckton was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 1999.[3]

Monckton died in Nambucca Heads, New South Wales on 29 June 2017 at the age of 79.
