John Zdechlik (Zuh-DECK-lik; May 2, 1937 – May 21, 2020) was an American composer, music teacher, and conductor. Zdechlik was elected to the American Bandmasters Association in 1989.[1][2] He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His best known work was Chorale and Shaker Dance.
In 1970, Zdechlik began his career as a teacher at Lakewood Community College (now Century College) in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. For thirty years he was a conductor, professor, music department chair, and resident composer. He retired in 1997.[3]
Zdechlik died on May 21, 2020 at his home in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, aged 83.[4]
