Joseph Mercieca
Joseph Mercieca (Maltese: Ġużeppi Mercieca , 11 November 1928 – 21 March 2016)[1] was a Maltese prelate. He served as Archbishop of Malta from 1976 to 2006. He was born in Gozo, Malta. He was known for restoring stability in the Maltese church following his predecessor Mikiel Gonzi's dispute with the Malta Labour Party.[2]
Mercieca died in his home in Żejtun, Malta after a long-illness on 21 March 2016. He was aged 87.[3]
