Leg brace
A leg brace is any implement, often used in pairs, but sometimes alone, which is placed on the leg of a human in order to support them, often to walk, or to hold the area in place when a bone of the area has been fractured. They are often made out of plastic. Metal was used for a long time prior to the invention of plastic, but is now not used anymore.

Ankle-foot orthosis (AFO) manufactured using old technology from polypropylene in a variant that is also called "Hinged AFO". It can be used to support an isolated foot drop, but it will block plantar flexion. This AFO cannot transmit the high forces required to counterbalance weak plantar flexors while standing and walking.
