List of Texas hurricanes (1900–1949)
The list of Texas hurricanes lists tropical storms and hurricanes that hit the U.S. State of Texas during that 50-year period.
1900-1929
September 8-9, 1900: The 1900 Galveston Hurricane hit Galveston, Texas. The storm killed 8,000 to 12,000 people, mostly in Texas. It also caused $30 million in damage. It was the deadliest hurricane to ever hit the United States.
August 16-18, 1915: The 1915 Galveston hurricane hit just to the southwest of Galveston. The storm caused $56 million in damage in Texas alone. There were 111 deaths in or near Texas.[1]
September 14-15, 1919: The 1919 Florida Keys hurricane struck near Corpus Christi, Texas. The storm took 284 to 300 lives near Corpus Christi.[2]
1930-1949
August 13-14, 1932: The 1932 Freeport hurricane hit around Freeport. The storm caused forty deaths in Texas.[3]
September 4-5, 1933: The eleventh storm struck just north of Brownsville. It killed 179 people. It caused $28 million in damage.
August 29-30, 1942: The 1942 Matagorda hurricane hit around Matagorda, Texas. It did $26.5 million in damage in south-central Texas. Eight people died.
July 27, 1943: The 1943 Surprise Hurricane hit at the Bolivar Peninsula, near Galveston. It was a Category 2 storm having winds near 105 mph. The storm killed 19 people. It caused $17 million in damage.
