Manji (era)

Manji (万治?) was a Japanese era name (年号, nengō,?, lit. "year name") after Meireki and before Kanbun. This period started in July 1658 and ended in April 1661.[1] During this time, the emperor was Go-Sai-tennō (後西天皇?).[2]

In the 1st year of Manji, fire fighting groups were organized in Edo. This is a lantern of the firefighters (megumi).
