On January 4, 2017, Green announced his plans to run for Governor of Tennessee in the 2018 election.[2]
On March 15, 2017, sources revealed to the Tennessean that Green was under consideration for Secretary of the Army by the Trump Administration.[3] On April 1, 2017, Trump announced his plans to nominate Green as Secretary of the Army.[4] If confirmed, it would effectively end his run for Governor in 2018. Green, however, withdrew his nomination on May 5, 2017.[5]
