Maureen Connolly

Maureen Connolly (September 17, 1934 – June 21, 1969) was an American tennis player.[1] She won nine Grand Slam singles titles in the 1950s. In 1953, she became the first woman to win all four Grand Slam titles in the same year.

Connolly was born in San Diego, California. She had to retire from tennis at age 19 because she was injured in a horseback riding accident. She was married to Norman Brinker from 1955 until her death. The couple had two daughters. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1966. It spread to her stomach. She died in of the disease in Dallas aged thirty-four.
