Mesostigmatophyceae

The Mesostigmatophyceae is a type of basal green algae. They are usually found in fresh water.[2][3][4] Mesostigmatophyceae can be be a sister group to all green algae, or as sister to all Streptophyta.[5][6][7]

Categorization

There are many ways to place the Mesostigmatophyceae into a category. One popular way is to have it only one genus, which is Mesostigma.[1][8] A different way to do it is two have two clades; Chlorokybus and Spirotaenia.[3][9][10][11][12][13] It is also common to put Chlorokybus in a different class as Chlorokybophyceae.[14] Below is a common way to sort the categories.
