Michael A. Epstein

Sir Michael Anthony Epstein CBE, FRS FMedSci (18 May 1921 – 6 February 2024) was a British virologist of Jewish descent.[1] He was one of the discoverers of the Epstein-Barr virus.

Epstein was Professor of Pathology, 1968-85, and Head of Department, 1968-82 at the University of Bristol. In 1979 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of London and was its Vice-President from 1986 to 1991.

He died on 6 February 2024, at the age of 102.[2]
