Modesto, California
Modesto (Spanish for "modest")[1] is the county seat and largest city in Stanislaus County, California, United States.[2] As of 2020, 218,464 people lived in Modesto.[3]
Modesto is in the Central Valley. It is on the Tuolumne River and near the Stanislaus River.
The nation's largest winery, E & J Gallo Winery, is in Modesto.[4]
Modesto is the 18th largest city in California, and the 103rd largest city in the United States.
Environment
Modesto has been honored as a Tree City USA many times.[5] However, Modesto was named one of the most polluted cities in the U.S. in 2010.[6]

She began working as secretary and janitor in the fledgling Gallo family business shortly after Ernest and Julio Gallo started the E. & J. Gallo Winery in Modesto in 1933. Today, the company is the nation's largest winery, with more than a quarter of the American wine market.
