New Westminster (also known as New West) is a city in British Columbia, Canada. It is in the Metro Vancouver Regional District. Major-General Richard Moody started the city in 1858. It was the capital of the Colony of British Columbia until 1866. It was the largest city in the mainland of British Columbia until the 1910s, when Vancouver became larger.

The city is near the Fraser River, and is near the middle of the Greater Vancouver area.
