Nurbanu Sultan (Ottoman Turkish: نور بانو سلطان; meaning "queen of light"; c. 1525/1527[1] - 7 December 1583) was Haseki Sultan of the Ottoman Empire and the legal wife of Ottoman Sultan Selim II, as well as Valide Sultan as the mother of Ottoman Sultan Murad III. She was one of the most prominent person during the time of Sultanate of Women. She is Venetian or Jewish[2] or Greek[3] origin. Her birth name may have been: Cecilia ,[4] or Kalē kartanou[3] or Rachel.[5]
