Penn State University College of Medicine is the medical school affiliated with Pennsylvania State University, located in Hershey, Pennsylvania.[1]
History
The origins of Penn State College of Medicine date back to 1963 when the Hershey Trust provided a substantial gift of $50 million to establish a medical school and teaching hospital. This gift was motivated by Milton S. Hershey’s vision to enhance medical education and healthcare in central Pennsylvania. The college officially opened in 1967, and the first class of medical students began their studies in 1969.[2][3]
Since its establishment, Penn State College of Medicine has grown significantly, expanding its academic programs, research capacity, and clinical services.[4] The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, which opened in 1970, serves as the primary teaching hospital for the college, offering a full range of healthcare services and acting as a key site for medical research and innovation.[5]
