Powys Castle
Powys Castle (or Powis Castle or Welsh: Castell Coch) is a mediaeval castle, fortress and grand country mansion near the town of Welshpool, in Powys, Mid Wales. It is the residence of the Earl of Powis. The castle is built of sandstone. The rock is from New Red Sandstone of the Permian or Triassic periods.
The castle has extensive, attractive formal gardens, terraces, parkland, deerpark and landscaped estate. The property is under the care of the National Trust, who operate it under the name "Powis Castle and Garden". Queen Victoria visited the castle during her tour through England and Wales in 1832.
