Quantile
A quantile is a statistical value that divides a data set into equal-sized intervals. It helps in understanding the distribution of data. Common types of quantiles include:
- Quartiles (4 parts) – Q1 (25th percentile), Q2 (median or 50th percentile), Q3 (75th percentile)
- Deciles (10 parts)
- Percentiles (100 parts)
For example, the median (Q2) is the 50th percentile, meaning half the values are below it and half are above.
Quantile Media
Probability density of a normal distribution, with quantiles, Q1, Q2, and Q3, are shown. The area below the red curve is the same in the intervals (−∞,Q1), (Q1,Q2), (Q2,Q3), and (Q3,+∞).
