Rabiu Afolabi

Rabiu Afolabi (born 18 April 1980[1] in Osogbo, Nigeria) is a former Nigerian soccer player.

Career

After playing well in the UEFA-CAF Meridian Cup in 1997 he went to Europe and played for Standard Liège. He signed for SSC Napoli in 2000 in Serie A but did not break through. He went back to Belgium. From 2003 to 2005 the played in Austria for FK Austria Wien. After his time in France, playing for FC Sochaux from 2005 to 2009, he signed for F.C. Red Bull Salzburg. In 2011 he moved to AS Monaco.

International

He started with the Nigerian team at the 1999 African Youth Championship. He was captain of the Nigerian team at the 1999 FIFA World Youth Championship in Nigeria, where they reached the quarter finals. On 17 June 2000, he played his first match in the senior team in a 2002 World Cup qualifing match against Sierra Leone. He was a member of the Nigerian team at the 2002 and 2010 World Cups.
