Rajat Patidar

Rajat Manohar Patidar (born 1 June 1993) is an Indian international cricketer who plays as a right-handed top-order batter and occasional off-spin bowler. He represents Madhya Pradesh in domestic cricket and captains the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He made his international debut for India in December 2023 and played his first Test match in February 2024. Under his captaincy, Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their first-ever IPL title in 2025.[1][2]

Early life

Patidar was born on 1 June 1993 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. His father is a businessman. He began playing cricket at the age of eight and was enrolled into a cricket academy by his grandfather. Initially a bowler, he started focusing on batting after competing in U-15 tournaments.[3][4]

Domestic career

Patidar made his first-class debut for Madhya Pradesh in the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy on 30 October 2015.[5] He made his T20 debut on 8 January 2018 in the 2017–18 Zonal T20 League.[6]

In the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy, he was the leading run-scorer for Madhya Pradesh, scoring 713 runs in eight matches.[7] He was also selected for the India Blue squad in the 2019–20 Duleep Trophy.[8]

In the 2024–25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Patidar captained Madhya Pradesh and finished as the tournament's second-highest run-scorer. He scored 428 runs in nine innings at an average of 61.14 and a strike rate of 186.08, including five half-centuries. He led the team to the final and scored an unbeaten 81 off 40 balls in the title clash.

Patidar also holds the record for the fifth-fastest century in Ranji Trophy history, reaching a hundred in just 68 balls against Haryana. He finished the innings with 159 off 102 balls, including 13 fours and 7 sixes.
