Early life
Dolan grew up in what was considered an inner city neighbourhood of Toronto, originally growing up in Thorncliffe Park until his parents divorced when he was five. Eleven years later at the age of 16, he moved out to on his own and never returned. Dolan worked during his high school years as a weight rack boy for Gold’s Gym, cleaning barbells and weighted machines of their plates. One day, being inspired by the hit 80s movie Wall Street and wanting to lift himself from financial hardship, he decided to leave high school and enter the investment business in whichever way he could.
Early career
Dolan began his career in 1992, entering the investment industry as a telemarketer (often referred to as a ‘cold call cowboy’). He would make over three hundred cold calls a day on behalf of the investment brokerage where we worked at the time. It was during this period when Richard was recognized as a driven and motivated young individual whose raw talents could be nurtured and primed for growth if adequately trained. Dolan was honing his abilities and learning by any means available from legends of the time, including Zig Ziglar, Bob Proctor, Nick Murray, Stephen Covey, and Tony Robbins. He was 18 years of age.
Author
Following years of studying and research inside areas such as positive psychology, behavioural finance, happiness economics, and investor resilience, Dolan became an author, uniquely expressing his research and philosophy of urban financial life planning, performance psychology, real estate investing, and human betterment.
Dolan became a public speaker and became a recurring speaker on the stage of The Power Within across various cities in both Canada and the US; sharing the stage with political figures ranging from former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, US Ambassador Fred Bush, former first lady Michelle Obama. and Former President of Mexico, Vicente Fox.[2] Dolan has also shared the stage with other notable figures such as Richard Branson, Deepak Chopra, and Robin Sharma. Leveraging his unique research and business acumen, Richard became an advisor to entrepreneurs such as super car builder Horatio Pagani, hip hop artist Drake, Rémy Martin, BRON Studios, and couture fashion institution - Chanel.[3][4]
Theories
Dolan’s writing and speaking is based on his very own urban life philosophy, “Dolanetics: A Model to More” where he asserts "our relationship to life and all our experiences of it, are shaped because we’re all born with a unique source of origination, a state of thrownness, which we were thrown into; comprised of people, environment, beliefs, and conversations shaping our relationship inside the world of wealth and performance.” More of Richard’s urban financial life philosophy and performance coaching can be found in curricula and programming titled The Sport of Money, The Great Financial Life, and Think Legacy and Richer.[5]
Performance Advisory
Dolan was gifted two rings by Juwan Howard of the Miami Heat’s back-to-back championship wins in 2012-2013 for his role as a performance advisor.[6] Additionally, Dolan’s performance coaching was recognized once again, as Mike Mancias gifted Dolan an NBA championship ring after the LA Lakers won their last NBA championship.[7][8]
