Biography

Van de Heuvel was born in Dordrecht in 1938. After primary school he attended seminary, like his two years older brother.[1] He became a monk in 1956 at the St. Paul's Abbey in Oosterhout. The monastery from which the St. Willibrord's Abbey of Doetinchem was founded in 1945. He was interim superior of the abbey for nine years.[2] From 1985 to 2007 he was the fourth abbot of St. Paul's Abbey.[3] After the abdication of Petrus van den Biesen [nl] at the St. Willibrord's Abbey he became the third elected abbot of St. Willibrord's Abbey on 3 September 2007. During his leadership, the number of monks grew from five to eleven. Interest in visiting the abbey also grew.[2] He held this position until 2015.[2]
