Robin Dowell

Robin Dowell (1982 – 16 December 2022) was a British rowing coach.[1][2]

Biography

Dowell was a succesfull rowing coach at Sir William Borlase's Grammar School in Marlow, the United Kingdom. He coached the junior men's quadruple scull that won the gold medal at the 2015 World Rowing Junior Championships in Rio de Janeiro. It was the first British gold medal in this boat class. He became later a coach at British Rowing in 2015 and 2016, where he coached the Olympic athletes.[1][2] In 2017 he became Chief Coach for the Swiss national team.[3] Since 2019 he was the personal coach of world champion Jaennine Gmelin.[4]

During a rowing training session while Dowell was on a motorboat, Dowell died at Lake Sarnen on 16 December 2022, at the age of 40.[1][2][5]
