Ron Clarke
Ronald William "Ron" Clarke AO MBE (21 February 1937 – 17 June 2015) was an Australian athlete, writer, and politician. He served as Mayor of the Gold Coast from 25 March 2004 until 27 February 2012. He was a world record holder and won a bronze medal at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
Clarke was born in Melbourne, Victoria. He was married to Helen Clarke and had two sons.
Clark died from kidney failure on 17 June 2015 in Southport, Queensland. He was 78.[1]
