Rosera

Rosera is a city and municipality located on the bank of the Budhi Gandak river in the Samastipur district of Bihar, India.[2] The Rosera block consists of 48 villages. It is connected to other parts of Bihar through rail and road, including State Highways SH-55 (towards Begusarai) and SH-88 (towards Darbhanga). Rosera is approximately 120 km from Patna, the state capital.

Demographics

According to the 2011 Census of India,[3] Rosera had a population of 31,155. Males make up 53% of the population and females 47%. The average literacy rate is 69%, with male literacy at 70% and female literacy at 68.5%. About 16% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Government

Rosera is part of the Rosera Vidhan Sabha constituency. The town has seen representation from various political parties over the years, including the Indian National Congress, Janata Dal, Lok Dal, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Samajwadi Party, and Bharatiya Janata Party.[4]

Economy

Rosera is a trading hub due to its location on the trade route along the Budhi Gandak river. Key economic activities include the trade of lychee, jewellery, carpets, clothing, medicine, and agricultural products.

Agriculture

The area is fertile and supports crops such as tobacco, maize, rice, wheat, sugarcane, lychee, and mangoes. Sugarcane is often sent to the Hasanpur sugar mill for processing.

Businesses

Historically, Rosera was known for wooden kamandalu crafts, though this art has declined. The town has multiple flour mills, clothing shops, and increasing urbanization with branded showrooms. The main market is Mahavir Chowk on Station Road.

Transport

Rosera is served by Rusera Ghat railway station with direct train services to major cities including Delhi.[5] The town also has bus connections to Patna, Ranchi, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, and Delhi.[6]
