Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites was released on October 22, 2010. Skrillex said that he recorded the EP in 2010 at his apartment using a laptop.[1] The EP and song's name was inspired from the 1980 David Bowie album and song Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps).[2]
The EP won two Grammys at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards for Best Dance Recording and for Best Dance/Electronica Album.[3] The EP also received generally positive reviews from music critics and reached #49 on the Billboard 200 as well as #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart.
