In 1252, Alphonse de Poitiers, Count of Toulouse, sent Jean d'Arcis, [[Seneschal]] of Rouergue, to build a city along the [[Aveyron (river)|Aveyron]] as a new [[Capital (city)|capital]] for [[Rouergue]] (an old [[France|French]] [[province]]): Villefranche-de-Rouergue.
