Until June 2020, if you linked the Nintendo Network ID with your Nintendo Account, you could also use the service to log into the Nintendo Account system used by the [[Nintendo Switch]] and the [[My Nintendo]] rewards program.

Nintendo Network had leaked early from box art of [[Theatrhythm Final Fantasy]] that had the logo. It had seemed at first to be a rebranding of [[Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection]].
The service was revealed January 26, 2012, and had support for Wii U at the system's launch.
