Starved Rock State Park
Starved Rock State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of Illinois. It is made by the many canyons within its 2,630 acres (1,064 ha). It is located just southeast of the village of Utica in LaSalle County, Illinois, along the south bank of the Illinois River. The park hosts over two million visitors annually, the most for any Illinois state park.[1]

Ferdinand Walther constructed the Starved Rock Hotel for his resort, seen here c. 1905, which no longer exists. In 1911 he sold the resort to the State of Illinois. The "rock" is the bluff in the upper right.

- Shaky Shelter Site (8751105119).jpg
Shaky Shelter Site in Deer Park Township, IL (c. 500-900). It is one of six small caves/overhangs in the park known to contain evidence of use. The deposits were mostly unnoticed until 1992. When excavated, researchers found a rich zone of animal bones under the surface. Further deposits date to c. 1640.
