T. B. Joshua
Temitope Balogun Joshua (June 12, 1963 – June 5, 2021), also known as prophet T.B. Joshua, was a Nigerian charismatic pastor, televangelist, prophet and philanthropist. He was the leader and founder of The Synagogue, Church of All Nations (SCOAN).[1] He also helped run the Emmanuel TV television station from Lagos. Joshua was born in Arigidi Akoko, Nigeria.
Prophet TB Joshua passed on to glory on June 5, 2021 after a service on that same day, reports have it that he died peacefully in a praying position without any sign of ill health or any form of health concern, Christian faithfuls sees this as a call to eternal glory, he passed on a week before his 58th birthday.[2]
According to Isaiah Ogedegbe, Prophet TB Joshua's death "is indeed a big blow to Christianity".[3] Or his passing "is undoubtedly a major blow to Christianity".[4]
On 27 August 2022, Isaiah Ogedegbe in his tribute to Prophet TB Joshua wrote: "Evidently, T. B. Joshua was the man to whom the arm of the Lord had been revealed. Joshua's hands had become God's hands through which He brought divine healing to the sick. He was also 'the man who saw tomorrow' because he had truly heard from God and had seen what the future held, and he made known to us the mind of God".[5]
Isaiah Ogedegbe also argued: "Was T. B. Joshua a prophet? Yes, and more than a prophet. His predictions were not mere coincidences because they were known for accuracy as each event he had ever predicted happened exactly when, where and how he said it would happen".[5]
Predictions
The senior pastor of the church, T. B. Joshua has claimed to have predicted the Synagogue Church building collapse "three weeks before it happened".[6][7]
[8][9][10][11][12][13] While another Nigerian religious figure, Isaiah Ogedegbe seemed to have also predicted the incident eight months before it happened.[14][15][16][17]
Successor
Following his death in June 2021, his wife Evelyn Joshua took over as the new leader of The SCOAN.[18][19]
Posthumous abuse accusations
In 2024, he was accused, in a BBC investigation, of raping, torturing, and abusing followers over a period of almost 20 years.[21] Accusations included instances of child abuse, taking place in a compound in Lagos.[21][22] However, Isaiah Ogedegbe once again defended the late accused prophet and said that the BBC reduced itself with the story they made up.[23] Described as "allegedly a global platform for the dissemination of political propaganda and disinformation" especially in Nigeria,[24] the BBC has also been accused of using propaganda to discredit T. B. Joshua, who was "one of the most reputable men of God in Africa".[25] Many Africans have questioned the reason behind the BBC release of film on dead prophet and said that "this is misplaced priority because TB Joshua is not alive to give his part of the story".[26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34]
