Template:Australian cyclone category names
This template is used to provide the correct full tropical cyclone category name, according to the Australian tropical cyclone intensity scale, to cyclones in the season effects table of each Australian region cyclone season article. As such, this template is transcluded in the template Australian cyclone season effects (cyclone), and can be used wherever else it may be useful. The Australian region encompasses all areas south of the Equator between longitudes 90°E and 160°E. The regional specialised meteorological centres for the region are the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG), and the Papua New Guinea National Weather Service (PNGNWS).
The Australian tropical cyclone intensity scale is also used in the South Pacific tropical cyclone region, which is monitored officially by the Fiji Meteorological Service. For this reason, the category of tropical disturbance is included in this template, despite being used exclusively in the South Pacific region. Additionally, tropical lows are referred to as tropical depressions in the South Pacific basin.
