The name given to the artifact. Defaults to article title. Multiple names can be separated by <br>.
A picture of the artifact. Size can vary and needs to be specified.
An optional second picture of the artifact. Size can vary and needs to be specified.
Description or notes for the picture.
The substance the artifact is made of.
Size of the artifact, if known.
Language and-or script of contingent inscriptions on the artifact, if known.
The date and location that the artifact was made, if known.
The date, location, and (re)discoverer of the artifact, if known.
Where the artifact has ended up now.
Identification code (numbers or letters) for the artifact, if known.

Optional parameters
  • place may supplement created to separate date from location found/created.
  • period may be added to describe the era or culture (such as "Greco-Roman").
  • registration distinguishes the unique database or full catalogue number from a collection ID or historic/commonly used ID.
  • height, width, depth and weight are alternatives to using the generic size. If several dimensions are needed it is recommended to use size, to avoid creating an overly complex infobox, by separating dimensions with <br>, e.g. size = height:6cm<br>width:2cm<br>thickness:0.4cm.

English variation

"artifact" is a US spelling. The UK spelling is "artefact" and {{Infobox artefact}} may be used as a valid alternative.
