Terrence McNally (November 3, 1938 – March 24, 2020) was an American playwright, librettist and screenwriter. He was award the Tony Award for Best Play for Love! Valour! Compassion! and Master Class. He also won the Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical for Kiss of the Spider Woman and Ragtime. His other awards included an Emmy Award, two Guggenheim Fellowships, a Rockefeller Grant, four Drama Desk Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards, two Obie Awards and three Hull-Warriner Awards.

McNally was born in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was openly gay. He married theater producer Tom Kirdahy in 2003.

On March 24, 2020, during the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic, McNally died in Sarasota, Florida due to COVID-19. He was 81.[1]
