For this album, DeLange went to the United States for a while, where the album was recorded at Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles.
Until then, DeLange had only scored album hits, but that changed after this album. The great escape, The lonely one and I love you reached the Dutch Top 40. The album itself entered the Album Top 100 at number 1, remained there for seven weeks and was in the album chart for a total of 89 weeks.
