The Great Ziegfeld
The Great Ziegfeld is a 1936 American musical drama movie directed by Robert Z. Leonard and starring William Powell, Myrna Loy, Luise Rainer, Frank Morgan, Fanny Brice, Virginia Bruce, Reginald Owen, Ray Bolger, Harriet Hoctor. It was distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and was nominated for 7 Oscars and won 3 Academy Awards in 1937.[1] It was followed up by Ziegfeld Girl in 1941 and Ziegfeld Follies in 1946.

The extravagant "Wedding Cake" sequence featured a towering rotating volute of 70 ft diameter with 175 spiral steps, weighing 100 tons. This number, "A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody", won the Academy Award for Best Dance Direction for 1936. The Carthay Circle Theatre, pictured a year after The Great Ziegfeld was released.
