The Wire (India)
The Wire is an Indian nonprofit news and opinion website.[1] It was founded in 2015 by Siddharth Varadarajan, Sidharth Bhatia, and M. K. Venu.[2][3] It is one of the independent news outlets in India, not controlled by the government. Over the years, it has faced several defamation lawsuits, often filed by businessmen and politicians in response to its reporting.

History
The Wire was founded on 11 May 2015. It was started by Siddharth Varadarajan, Sidharth Bhatia, and M. K. Venu. Later it became part of the Foundation for Independent Journalism. The Independent and Public Spirited Media Foundation also gave money to the project.[3]
In 2020, The Wire joined Progressive International, a group of progressive media organisations from around the world.[4]
