Tostig Godwinson

Tostig Godwinson was a man who lived in England in the 1000s c.e. He was the younger brother of King Harold II. He was the third son of Earl Godwine of Wessex and his Danish wife Gytha, who was the daughter of Thorkell Sprakaleg.[1]

Tostig, his father, and his brothers were banished from England in 1051 by the Saxon King Edward the Confessor but they came back in 1052. After Earl Siward died three years later, he was appointed Earl of Northumbria, Northamptonshire and Huntingdonshire.

He rebelled against Harold and fought alongside Viking forces at the battle of Stamford bridge,[2] where he died in battle.
