Vasso Papandreou

Vasso Papandreou (Greek: Βάσω Παπανδρέου; 9 December 1944 – 17 October 2024) was a Greek politician and economist. She was born in Aigio, Greece. She was a member of the PASOK political party.

In 1989, she became Greece's European Commissioner for Employment, industrial relations and social affairs under the Jacques Delors commission.

She was elected to the Hellenic Parliament in the 1993. She was in parliament until 2012. She served in Costas Simitis government as Minister of Economic Development from 1996 to 1999, Minister of Interior from 1999 to 2001 and Minister for the Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works from 2001 to 2004.

Papandreou died on 17 October 2024 at her home in Chalandri, Greece from problems caused by dementia at the age of 79.[1][2]
