Wadowice [vadɔˈvʲit͡sɛ] (German: Frauenstadt – WadowitzLua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'Module:Category handler/data' not found.) is a town in Poland in Lesser Poland Voivodeship in the mountainous range known as Zakopane region, 50 kilometres (31 miles) southeast of Krakow - (former Polish capital).
Pope John Paul II (Karol Wojtyla) was born there on May 18 1920. He also attended elementary and high school there, graduating with honors in 1938.
