Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão (Portuguese pronunciation: [kaj ˈɾalɐ ʃɐˈnɐnɐ ɣuʒˈmɐ̃w̃], born José Alexandre Gusmão, IPA: [ʒuˈzɛ ɐlɨˈʃɐ̃dɾɨ], on 20 June 1946) is an East Timorese politician. He was the first President of East Timor. He served as President from May 2002 to May 2007. He became the seventh Prime Minister of East Timor on 8 August 2007.[1]
