12 Years a Slave (movie)
12 Years a Slave is a 2013 British-American historical biographical drama movie based on the book 12 Years a Slave. It is directed by Steve McQueen. It stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Giamatti, and Brad Pitt. It was composed by Hans Zimmer. It was released on November 1, 2013 in the United States.
The film was first shown at the Telluride Film Festival on August 30, 2013. It will be released in the UK in January 2014.
On October 20 2013 McQueen won Hollywood Breakout Director Award at the Hollywood Film Awards for the film. On November 14 he won Bronze Horse for Best Film - Special Mention at the Stockholm International Film Festival.[1]
Movie critics gave the film good reviews.
Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Washington Post, and The New York Times called 12 Years a Slave the best movie of 2013.

The Edwin Epps House, now located on the ground of Louisiana State University of Alexandria, is a stop along Northup's Trail. Solomon Northup and Samuel Bass helped build the house that was completed in 1852.
