Absolutism is a form of government where one person, usually called a monarch holds power that is not restrained or controlled by other groups of people, such as clergy, lawmakers or social elites. The term is usually used to refer to some monarchs who reigned during the transition from feudalism to capitalism. Many monarchs described as absolute reigned in the time period from the 16th to the 19th century. Before the era of absolutism, the era was characterized by religious wars, after this era there were social revolios.

In the late 20th century, some historians believe that the term Absolutism is not good enough to describe a whole era; they use the term epoch of Baroque instead.ckb:ده‌سه‌ڵاتى ڕه‌هاگه‌ری de:Absolutismus en:Absolute monarchy
