Alan Merrill (born Allan Preston Sachs; February 19, 1951 – March 29, 2020) was an American singer, guitarist, songwriter, actor and model. In the early 1970s, he became was the first westerner to become a pop star in Japan. He was the lead singer of the first ever released version and writer of the song "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" by the Arrows in 1975.

Merrill was born in the Bronx, New York City. His parents were jazz musicians, singer Helen Merrill and saxophone and clarinet player Aaron Sachs.

On March 29, 2020, during the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic, Merrill died due to COVID-19 in Manhattan. He was 69.[1]
