Arrondissement of Chambéry

The arrondissement of Chambéry is an arrondissement of France. It is part of the Savoie département, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Its capital, and the prefecture of the department, is the city of Chambéry.

History

When the Savoie department was created in 1860, the arrondissement of Chambéry was part of that original department.[1]

Geography

The arrondissement of Chambéry is bordered to the north by the Haute-Savoie department, to the northeast by the arrondissement of Albertville, to the east by the arrondissement of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, to the south and southwest by the Isère department, and to the west and northwest by the Ain department.

It is the most western of the arrondissements of the department and the smallest arrondissement with an area of 1,586.1 km2 (612.4 sq mi),[2] but the one with more people living in it with 271,647 inhabitants and a density of 171.3 inhabitants/km².[3]
