Baligród massacre

Monument in Baligród

The Baligród massacre[a] was committed on August 6, 1944 in Baligród, Lesko County[b] by Ukrainian nationalists and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.

Events

The perpetrators entered the village of Baligród to kill 42 Poles. They surrounded Poles, who were in a local church, and killed some of them when they left the church. They reportedly did this in revenge for the murder of 16 Ukrainians in Stężnica by some Baligród villagers and Soviet partisans on August 4, 1944.[1]
