J. Bennett Johnston
John Bennett Johnston Jr. (June 10, 1932 – March 25, 2025) was an American lawyer, politician, and later lobbyist. Johnston was the United States Senator from Louisiana from 1972 to 1997. He was a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1964 to 1968 and a member of the Louisiana State Senate from 1968 to 1972. He was a member of the Democratic Party.

In 1988, Johnston ran for Senate Majority Leader but lost to George J. Mitchell of Maine.[1]
Johnston died on March 25, 2025 in McLean, Virginia from problems caused by COVID-19 at the age of 92.[2][3]
