Brownface
Brownface is when a white or light-skinned person attempts to portray themselves as a brown person, or a person of colour. This is most commonly done to mimic people of the Middle Eastern, North African, Southeast Asian, Melanesian, Micronesian, Polynesian, Hispanic/Latino, Native American or other Indigenous, Southern Italians, Sicilians, and/or South Asian ethnic identity by using makeup, hair-dye, and/or by wearing traditional ethnic clothing. It is typically defined as a racist phenomenon, similar to blackface. [1]
